Menopause & Your Hormones

As women get older there is an age related decline in the hormones that regulate the female body. When hormones, such as estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, and DHEA quickly drop a condition known as menopause begins to develop.

While the definition of menopause is 1 full year without a menstrual cycle symptoms of menopause can begin anywhere from 2 to 10 years before that full year without a cycle occurs. While the average age of menopause is about 51 years old every woman is different.

Women may also experience surgical menopause, which is menopause due to a woman having a hysterectomy. While menopause causes the most problems during the female life cycle hormonal imbalance can cause symptoms earlier in life also. Symptoms such as PMS, dysmenorrhea (pain menstrual cycles), infertility, endometriosis, and other symptoms can also be linked to hormonal imbalances.

How does menopause affect my well being?

Natural or surgical menopause results in a decrease in sex hormones, such asEstrogen: Hot flashes, night sweats, vaginal dryness, loss of hair, mental fogginess, bone loss

  • Progesterone: Mood swings, irritability, anxiety, fluid retention, insomnia, weight gain (hips and thighs), depression, bone loss, fibrocystic breast, PMS, breast tenderness
  • Testosterone: Fatigue, vaginal dryness, lack of concentration, bone loss, decreased sex drive

Besides estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone what else is affecting me?

Balancing the sex hormones (estrogen, progesterone, testosterone) is just one aspect to looking better, feeling better, and being better. It is also necessary to evaluate cortisol (stress hormone) and DHEA. These two hormones give great insight into your adrenal function.

Low functioning adrenal glands can lead to Adrenal Fatigue, which can result in a wide variety of symptoms such as:

  • Extreme Fatigue
  • Belly Fat
  • Insulin Resistance
  • Insomnia
  • Depression
  • Decreased Metabolism
  • Carbohydrate Cravings

See Why Connie Chooses Scott's Pharmacy For Her Customized Hormones (BHRT)

Why are customized (Bio-Identical) hormones helpful?

When the pharmacists at Scott’s Pharmacy customize your hormones, the hormones have the same chemical structure as those hormones found naturally in the human body. In other words, the hormones that we replace are IDENTICAL to the hormones that are found in your body. This is drastically different from many of the commercially available hormone replacement products on the market today.bio identical hormone therapy for women.

Synthetic (patented, conventional, or artificial) hormones have been chemically altered and these alterations result in structural changes that cause differences in activity from those hormones that they are intended to replaced in the body. This may explain many of the unwanted side effects often seen with the use of synthetic hormones.

Customized hormones also are formulated specifically for you. Only the hormones that you need and the quantities that are required by you are replaced. These hormones are customized for you based on your lab results, symptoms, and physician’s instructions.

What type of dosage forms are available?

Customized hormones can be compounded in a variety of dosage forms depending on your preference and symptoms.

Customized hormone dosage forms includes: capsules, creams – Sublingual (under the tongue) dosage forms: drops, troches, tablets, and injection.
